CHAPTER I GENERAL PROVISIONS
Article 1(Purpose) #
The purpose of this Act is to prevent the serious impacts of the climate crisis and to contribute to the sustainable development of the national economy by prescribing matters necessary for technology development and industrialization required for efficiently capturing carbon dioxide emitted from industrial activities and other sources and either storing it underground or utilizing it for industrial and daily life purposes.
Article 2(Definitions) #
The terms used in this Act are defined as follows:
1. The term "capture" means the collection of carbon dioxide emitted from sources of greenhouse gas emissions, such as industrial activities, or present in the atmosphere, into containers or facilities for domestic or international storage or utilization;
2. The term "transport" means the act of delivering captured carbon dioxide (referring to carbon dioxide streams under Article 10(1) of the Management of Marine Debris and Contaminated Marine Sediment Act and carbon dioxide prescribed by Presidential Decree; hereinafter the same shall apply) to storage sites or utilization business facilities, for domestic or foreign storage or utilization, by means prescribed by Presidential Decree;
3. The term "storage" means the permanent isolation of captured carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, to prevent its leakage into the atmosphere, by injecting it into domestic or foreign onshore or offshore geological formations;
4. The term "utilization" means converting captured carbon dioxide into substances useful for human life or economic activities and using them as industrial resources, or directly using exhaust gases containing carbon dioxide;
5. The term "carbon dioxide transport pipeline" means a pipeline and related facilities for transporting captured carbon dioxide, as prescribed by Presidential Decree;
6. The term "storage site" means a place that meets the standards prescribed by Presidential Decree, for storing captured carbon dioxide in onshore or offshore geological formations, to prevent its leakage into the atmosphere or ocean.
