CHAPTER I GENERAL PROVISIONS
Article 1(Purpose) #
The purpose of this Act is to provide for matters necessary for the standardization of weather observations under Article 3 (3) of the Weather Act, thereby improving the accuracy of weather observations, the efficiency of operating weather observation equipment, and the joint utilization of weather observation data, and ultimately protecting the lives and property of citizens from meteorological disasters and enhancing public welfare. <Amended on Apr. 18, 2017>

Article 2(Definitions) #
(1) The terms used in this Act shall have the meanings as defined in the Weather Act.
(2) Other terms used in this Act are defined as follows:
1. The term "standardization of weather observations" means the standardization of the methods and standards for conducting weather observations, as well as the standardization of the setting for weather observations and the data derived from such observations;
2. The term "weather observations" means weather observations and work incidental thereto;
3. The term "observation facilities" means meteorological facilities necessary for conducting weather observations;
4. The term "setting for weather observations" means the installation location and installation conditions of weather observation equipment, as well as the surrounding environment that affects the weather observation equipment during weather observations.

Article 3(Matters subject to application) #
(1) This Act shall apply to weather observations conducted by any of the following persons and matters pertaining thereto:
1. A State agency;
2. A local government;
3. A public institution subject to the Act on the Management of Public Institutions;
