CHAPTER I GENERAL PROVISIONS
Article 1(Purpose) #
The purpose of this Act is to contribute to improving the people’s awareness of the sea and cultivating talent by prescribing matters necessary to promote marine education and marine culture, as well as to strengthening national marine capabilities, promoting social development, and to improving the qualify of life of the people by developing marine culture.
Article 2(Definitions) #
The terms used in this Act are defined as follows:
1. The term “marine education” means education conducted by schools and society regarding the fundamental concepts referred to in Article 2 of the Framework Act on Marine Fishery Development, as well as regarding the sea, marine fishery resources, marine science and technology, and marine fisheries referred to in the subparagraphs of Article 3 of that Act; and marine education shall be classified as follows:
(a) School marine education: Marine education conducted by child care centers referred to in subparagraph 3 of Article 2 of the Child Care Act or by schools referred to in Article 2 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as part of their curricula;
(b) Social marine education: Marine education conducted by marine education facilities, marine education organizations, and by various facilities, organizations, etc. referred to in Article 18 (3);
2. The term “marine culture” means activities of steadily preserving and inheriting tradition, heritage, lifestyles, etc. related to the sea, which have so far been passed down as the totality of spiritual and material products created through interactions between the sea and humans, and all human activities of seeing, enjoying, and experiencing the sea;
3. The term “teacher” means a teacher specified in Article 21 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act;
4. The term “specialized marine education instructor” means a person who has completed a specialized marine education course at a specialized marine education institution and engages in planning, progress, analysis, evaluation, and teaching regarding marine education;
5. The term “specialized marine education institution” means an institution, organization, etc. designated under Article 13 (1) to efficiently conduct social marine education;
