DEMENTIA MANAGEMENT ACT

CHAPTER I GENERAL PROVISIONS

Article 1(Purpose) #

The purpose of this Act is to mitigate personal pain and damage from dementia and a burden to society, and to contribute to enhancing national health by establishing and implementing a comprehensive policy on the prevention of dementia, the protection of and support for dementia patients, and research for the eradication of dementia. <Amended on Jun. 12, 2018>

Article 2(Definitions) #

The terms used in this Act are defined as follows:<Amended on Jun. 12, 2018; Dec. 29, 2020; Mar. 28, 2023; Jan. 2, 2024>

1. The term "dementia" means an acquired composite disorder that affects a person's daily life as a result of a degenerative brain disorder or cerebrovascular disease that deteriorates a person's faculties of memory, language, orientation, judgment, and performance;

2. The term "dementia patient" means a person who exhibits clinical signs of dementia and is diagnosed with dementia by a physician or oriental medical doctor;

3. The term “mild cognitive impairment” means a condition in which cognitive functions such as memory, language, orientation, judgment, and performance are impaired to the extent that such impairment is verifiable by objective testing, while the ability to perform daily activities is preserved, so that the condition does not constitute dementia;

4. The term "dementia management" means the prevention of dementia, the protection of and support for dementia patients, and surveys and research on dementia;

5. The term "dementia management project implementing agency" means the following institutions:

(a) The Central Dementia Center under Article 16;

(b) The Regional Dementia Center under Article 16-2;

(d) The Dementia Care Hospital under Article 16-4;

(e) The Dementia Care Center under Article 17;

(f) A corporation or organization implementing dementia management projects under Article 3 (1).
