CHAPTER I GENERAL PROVISIONS
Article 1(Purpose) #
The purpose of this Decree is to regulate the matters necessary for the scope, authorship, authorization, approval, publication, supply, selection, and price determination of curriculum books for each school pursuant to Article 29 (2) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. <Amended by Presidential Decree No. 21687, Aug. 18, 2009>
Article 2(Definitions) #
The definitions of terms used in this Decree shall be as follows: <Amended by Presidential Decree No. 20740, Feb. 29, 2008; Presidential Decree No. 24423, Mar. 23, 2013>
1. The term "curriculum books" means textbooks and guide books;
2. The term "textbooks" means books, sound recordings, images, and electronic works, etc. used by students for learning at school;
3. The term "guide books" means books, sound recordings, images, and electronic works, etc. used by teachers for educating students at schools;
4. The term "government-designated books" means the curriculum books the copyright of which is held by the Ministry of Education;
5. The term "authorized books" means the curriculum books authorized by the Minister of Education;
6. The term "approved books" means the curriculum books approved by the Minister of Education to be used where no government-designated books or authorized books exist, or where it is impractical to use them or necessary to supplement them;
7. The term "reorganization" means a modification of the contents exceeding 1/2 of the total pages of curriculum books (the total contents in cases of sound recordings, images, and electronic works, etc.) due to the full-scale or partial revision of curriculum or other reasons;
8. The term "revision" means the correction, addition, reduction, or modification of the phrases, sentences, statistics, illustrations, etc. of the curriculum books due to a partial revision of the curriculum or other reasons, which do not fall in the scope of reorganization.
