CHAPTER I GENERAL PROVISIONS
Article 1(Purpose) #
The purpose of this Act is to commemorate the persons who lost their lives in the passenger aircraft disaster that occurred at Muan International Airport on December 29, 2024, and to support the recovery of the victims' daily lives and their communities by providing prompt relief for damage suffered by the victims, as well as assistance for their livelihoods and psychological stability.
Article 2(Definitions) #
The terms used in this Act are defined as follows:
1. The term "December 29 Passenger Aircraft Disaster" means the incident in which a passenger aircraft operating as Jeju Air Flight 2216 was involved in an accident at Muan International Airport, Mangun-myeon, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, on December 29, 2024, resulting in a large number of persons who lost their lives and victims;
2. The term "person who lost their life" means a person who died among those who were on board the relevant passenger aircraft at the time of the December 29 Passenger Aircraft Disaster;
3. The term "victim" means any of the following persons:
a. A person, other than a person who lost their life, who was on board the relevant passenger aircraft at the time of the December 29 Passenger Aircraft Disaster;
b. The spouse (including a de facto spouse; hereinafter the same shall apply), lineal ascendants or descendants, or siblings of a person who lost their life (hereafter in this Article referred to as "bereaved family members");
c. The spouse, lineal ascendants or descendants, or siblings of a person falling under item a.
4. The term "affected areas" means Gwangju Metropolitan City and Jeollanam-do, where a large number of persons who lost their lives and victims occurred as a result of the December 29 Passenger Aircraft Disaster;
5. The term "bereaved family organization" means an organization composed of bereaved family members, as prescribed by presidential decree.
