Article 69-2(Method of Admission to High School) #
(1) The screening of admission to a high school shall be rendered by a record of school life in a middle school (in case where there is no record of school life, referred to useful materials in lieu of a record of school life. Hereinafter the same shall apply up to Article 71-11) or selection examination, or by a method combining both the record of school life in a middle school and the selection examination. <Amended by Presidential Decree No. 15141, Aug. 23, 1996>
(2) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (1), the admission screening may be rendered by any way other than that as referred to in the said paragraph, with respect to a person who falls under any of the following subparagraphs. In this case, screening by written examination by a school shall not be carried out with respect to any person falling under subparagraph 3: <Amended by Presidential Decree No. 14920, Feb. 22, 1996; Presidential Decree No. 15299, Feb. 28, 1997>
1. A person who has completed the school curricula for nine or more years in a foreign country or the north of the Military Demarcation Line;
2. A person who has transferred to, or enrolled into, and graduated from a middle school in Korea, from schools in a foreign school or the North of the Military Demarcation Line, and falls under any of subparagraphs of paragraph (3); and
3. A person who enters a high school established for a special purpose falling under any of subparagraphs of paragraph (4).
(3) Any person who falls under paragraph (2) 2 shall be a person falling under any of the following subparagraphs: <Amended by Presidential Decree No. 15299, Feb. 28, 1997>
1. A national who has been in a foreign school for two or more years and has returned to Korea(limited to one who has dwelled with parents in a foreign country for two or more years);
2. A child of a scientist or professorate personnel who has returned to Korea by a Government invitation or recommendation;
3. A protected person by the Act on the Protection and Settlement Support of Defecting Residents from North Korea, who has been in school in the north region of the Military Demarcation Line for two or more years; and
4. A foreign student (whose parents shall be foreigners) or a foreign student who has completed the curricula of middle school in a foreign country for two or more years.
(4) The high schools established for a special purpose which fall under paragraph (2) 3, shall be such schools of those falling under any of the following subparagraphs, which are designated and announced publicly by the Minister of Education. In this case, such public announcement shall include the names of schools, school subjects, number of classes, student recruitment area and time of application, and the student selection time shall be determined by the principal of each high school concerned with the approval of the superintendent of the education board: <Amended by Presidential Decree No. 14920, Feb. 22, 1996>
1. High schools in the industrial fields, such as mechanical, electric, electronic, construction, etc.;
2. High schools in the agricultural fields to cultivate self-supporting farmers;
3. High schools in the fishery fields to cultivate self-supporting persons engaging in the fishery;
4. High schools in the marine fields to cultivate the seamen;
5. High schools in the scientific fields to cultivate brilliant scientists;
6. High schools in the foreign language fields to cultivate linguistic talents;
7. High schools in the art fields to cultivate artists; and
8. High schools in the athletic fields to cultivate sportsmen.
9. High schools in the international fields to cultivate experts on international relations or specified areas in foreign countries.
(5) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (1), the superintendent of the education board may determine any special exception to the method, procedure, etc. of the admission screening, in addition to the method as referred to in paragraph (1), with respect to such schools as designated by the Minister of Education, such as high schools in the industrial fields excluding those falling under paragraph (4).
(6) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (3) 1, if the period of attendance at foreign schools or the period of dwelling in foreign countries is less than two years due to unavoidable circumstances, such as the period required to enter into a foreign school, etc., the period of attendance at foreign schools or the period of dwelling in foreign countries prescribed in paragraph (3) 1 of this Article may be shortened at the maximum of two months and applied through the deliberation of the Qualification Deliberation Committee of High School Special Entrance established by each City /Do.” <Newly Inserted by Presidential Decree No. 15299, Feb. 28, 1997>
(7) The establishment and operation of the Qualification Deliberation Committee of High School Special Entrance pursuant to Article (6) shall be determined by the Minister of Education. <Newly Inserted by Presidential Decree No. 15299, Feb. 28, 1997>
