REGULATIONS ON THE EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF POLICE OFFICIALS

CHAPTER I GENERAL PROVISIONS

Article 1(Purpose) #

The purpose of this Decree is to prescribe matters necessary for the education and training of police officials (excluding those affiliated with the Korea Coast Guard; hereinafter the same shall apply) and persons who are to be appointed as police officials, in order to foster their public service values and enhance their professional competence.

Article 2(Definitions) #

The terms used in this Decree are defined as follows:

1. The term "police agency" means the Korean National Police Agency and its affiliated agencies;

2. The term "education and training institution" means the Korean National Police University, the Police Human Resources Development Institute, the Central Police Academy, and the Korean Police Investigation Research Institute established under Article 22 (2) of the Police Officials Act (hereinafter referred to as the "Act");

3. The term "workplace training" means education and training provided by the head of a police agency for police officials under his or her jurisdiction while they are performing daily duties to improve their job competency;

4. The term "entrusted education and training" means education and training entrusted to domestic and foreign institutions under Article 22 (3) of the Act and the Act on the Capacity Development of Public Officials.

Article 3(Responsibilities of heads of police agencies) #

(1) The head of a police agency shall conduct education and training in accordance with the master plan under Article 5, and shall endeavor to establish a support system for self-development learning, so that police officials under his or her jurisdiction can acquire knowledge, skills, and the ability to apply them in relation to their duties.

(2) The head of a police agency shall support education and training for self-development learning through on-site study groups, etc. related to their duties, and for the career development, etc. of police officials.
